We are thankful for minimal impact of #HurricaneMatthew. We hope that you and your family and friends are all safe, secure and ready for a fun filled weekend. We urge all Miami Carnival mas bands, steel bands, J’ouvert bands, promoters, media and other stakeholders to lend your dollars and resources to supporting the relief efforts for Haiti, Bahamas, Cuba, and also here in the United States. The Haitian American Hurricane Matthew Relief Coalition will have a booth on Carnival Sunday to collect donations and relief supplies (see www.lunionsuite.com for list of supplies needed).

With the impact of Hurricane Matthew, there have been a number of schedule changes and contingencies to Carnival weekend.  Here is a summary of our best recommendations and tips for a safe, fun-filled, and hassle free Carnival weekend: 

THEME 

For 2016, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Barbados Independence and Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc will sponsor and curate the mainstage concert mainstage with some of the island’s biggest names in Soca music who include: Alison Hinds, Edwin Yearwood and Lead Pipe & Saddis.

Event: Miami Carnival Kings/Queens/Individuals Costume Competition

STEELBAND PANORAMA

Event: Panorama Competition

Details: Steel bands compete for coveted title of Miami Carnival Panorama Champion

Due to impact of storm travel and transportation – WITCO DESPERADOES WILL NOT BE PERFORMING

Event: MIAMI BROWARD CARNIVAL PARADE OF THE BANDS AND FESTIVAL CONCERT

Details: Parade starts at Noon with over 15,000 masqueraders in 17+ Mas Bands. Concert Starts at 4PM. Arts & Craft Vendors. Corporate Village with Exhibitor Booths. Food Court. 

Location: 10901 SW 24 St, Miami, FL 33165. Miami – Dade County Fairgrounds

Time: 11AM – 11PM

Admission: $30 in advance; $35 ON THE DAY OF; and $40 AFTER 6PM

Kids 10 and Under FREE with a Paid Adult Admission

NO REFUNDS – TICKET POLICY

MBOCHC has a NO REFUND policy on all ticket purchases. However, given the nature of weather conditions beyond our control, if you purchased tickets for Fantastic Friday, J’Ouvert and/or Carnival Day AND your flight was cancelled for travel to Miami or Fort Lauderdale, MBOCHC will honor your ticket for Miami Carnival 2017.  Miami Carnival remains as scheduled for Sunday, October 9th at the Miami Dade Fairgrounds.  We appreciate your support during this period to ensure the safety and success of Miami Carnival 2016. 

TRAVEL OPTIONS 

MBOCHC has made travel to the Carnival festival at the Miami DADE fairgrounds easy and convenient.  Shuttle buses will be provided from the Miami Dade Transit Golden Glades bus depot (in North Miami-Dade) and Tropical Park (in S.W. Miami Dade on 40th Street/Bird Road) . Patrons will be able to park and ride for free to the Miami -Dade County Fairgrounds. The shuttle service party buses will run all day. Schedules of the shuttle services will be posted on www.miamibrowardcarnival.comand social media.

RECOMMENDED TRAVEL OPTIONS FOR MASQUERADERS 

  1. Carpool or travel for DROP OFF ONLY ENTRANCEat masquerader and music/support trucks entrance ONLY (SW 117th Avenue and 22nd Street)
  1. Carpool or travel to FREE main parking entrance at SW 24th Street and 112th Avenue. Carnival golf cart shuttles will be available to transport from main parking area to staging area. 
  1. Take FREE offsite parking shuttle services from:

Tropical Park (7900 SW 40th St, Miami, FL 33155) (BRIDGETOWN ROUTE)

  3. Come early andutilize multiple travel and parking options 
  4. Tailgating is STRICTLY PROHIBITEDin ALL parking lots 
  5. No parking on the public right of wayor on private property (TOWING WILL BE ENFORCED)
  6. Place personal litter/trash in available bins
  7. Be awareof your surroundings and try not to travel alone 
  8. Hydrate frequentlyand apply ample sunscreen
